To be able to catch up with the goal set out in the previous Immigration Plan 2021 - 2024, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Immigration Canada) has increased the organization of large draws and many policies with benefits for international applicants.

Canada Holds 3rd Biggest PNP Draw of the Year

After the isolation orders due to the epidemic were gradually eased in early June, the Immigration Department sent invitations to more than 1,002 candidates on June 23. This is considered the biggest draw this year. . Also in June, the second big draw also took place with the number of candidates up to 940 people.

On October 27, the third major draw of the year was also held with more than 888 Express Entry candidates applying for Canadian permanent residence with the candidate with the lowest CRS score of 744.

Open Opportunities for Candidates to participate in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

During the pandemic, Canada has maintained Express Entry draws for candidates in the PNP Provincial Nominee and Work Experience Stream (CEC). However, since September 14 of this year, the Department of Immigration has announced to suspend the organization of draws for CEC candidates, focusing on organizing PNP draws.

The reason is that although the pandemic has caused the number of applicants to drop significantly in recent months. However, the draws for CEC candidates remained largely unaffected, on the contrary, they recorded a higher number of applicants applying for permanent residence than the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

Another reason why IRCC has made this decision is that while the number of invitations sent to candidates in September has decreased, Canada still has a record of inviting the largest number of Express Entry candidates this year.

To date, the Federal Government of Canada has invited more than 111,265 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence. While last year Canada recorded only 107,350 immigration applicants.

The representative from IRCC also said that the temporary suspension of CEC draws is to ensure the purpose and quality of the next invitation rounds. At the same time, the Ministry of Immigration also needs to adjust the time to issue the Invitation Letter to be able to catch up with the goal of the Immigration Plan this year.

Immigration Canada Welcomes New Immigration Minister

Contrary to predictions in the previous re-election of the Prime Minister of Canada, recently, on October 26, Mr. Fraser officially became Canada's new Immigration Minister. While former Minister, Mr. Marco Mendicino assumed the position of Minister of Public Safety.

With the new appointment, it is expected that in the near future, IRCC will likely make decisions related to changing Express Entry policies and strategies.
